Transition Year Programme
What is Transition Year?
A one year program taken after Jumior Certificate and before the Leaving Certificate Programme.
What is the Purpose of the Transition Year Programme?
To promote maturity. Maturity in studies by making students more self-directed learners
through the development of general, technical and academic skills. Maturity in relation to
work and careers by developing work-related skills. Personal maturity by providing
opportunities to develop communication skills, self-confidence and a sense of
responsibility. Social maturity by developing greater ʻpeopleʼ skills and more awareness of
the world outside school.
Subjects
Subjects studied by Transition Year students include; Irish, English, Maths, Mini-Company,
Young Social Innovator Programme, Biology, Phys/Chem, French, Spanish, Religion, PE,
Environmental Studies, Practical Cookery, Information Technology, Woodwork, Drama,
Development Education. Students also complete modules
in Self Defence, Sports coaching,
Chinese, Chess, First Aid, Driver
Safety Programme, Work
Experience, Public Speaking & Log on Learn (teaching I.T. to senior
citizens)
Tours and Outings
Students are encouraged to
participate in many tours and
outings including, European tour,
team building outings and outdoor
pursuits.
