Scoil Pól Summer Irish Camp – ‘Cursa de Paor’

Scoil Pól are delighted and excited to announce the first Irish Summer camp to be held in Scoil Pól. This camp is in association with Lisa and Gearóid Power, daughter and son of the late Ger Power who established similar Irish camps in Limerick in the past.

Following a number of requests from parents to consider running an Irish camp, meetings were held with the Power family and the school management to investigate and discuss the idea. It quickly became very clear that there is a large interest from local and surrounding schools and parents that such a camp would be offered. With this in mind it was decided to launch ‘Cursa de Paor’ in Scoil Pol Secondary School this July.

The course is for students from 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th classes and 1st and 2nd years. The aim of the course is to encourage the use of Irish in a relaxed, fun and entertaining way, encouraging students to use our native language in a natural manner. There will be a mixture of classroom activities, music, dance, storytelling, cookery, sports and trips across the two weeks of the course. All of our tutors are established and practicing teachers from both primary and secondary levels with experience in taking park in summer camps.

We are especially delighted that Gearóid and Lisa Power are involved in our camp as they bring many years of experience and knowledge of summer camps. They will be ably assisted by Scoil Pól’s Irish teacher, Noreen O Riordan from Effin. We are also very proud to be able to continue the vision that the late Ger Power had when he first set up the Irish camps many years ago.
