BEO 2015! Postaer Beo

BEO invites schools in Ireland to organize a live music event in their area. While BEO is basically about teenagers organizing gigs for themselves BEO also asks participants to use the event to promote “cúpla focal” gaeilge while also having a social conscience.

Scoil Pól were delighted to be at the final in Letterkenny! Congratulations to all the TY class of 2015.

About Beo

BEO was founded by transition year students from Coláiste Ailigh , St. Eunan’s College, Loreto Convent and Errigal College. All of these schools are located in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.
BEO aims to get young people interested in music by encouraging them to organise a series of concerts in their local area. Students are in charge of every aspect of the organisational process – booking the acts, promotion of events, filming of concerts etc. This encourages an interest in live music, while helping students develop a wide range of organisational and communication skills.
This project also puts a firm emphasis on the Irish language and seeks to encompass it in the organisational process – “Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste, ná Bearla cliste”.
In October 2011, BEO was shortlisted as one of five finalists in the Designs for Learning Competition. This national contest was run by the National Digital Research Centre in conjunction with the National Science Gallery. During this competition the finalists had 5 weeks and €3,000 to further develop their products before presenting them at the National Science Gallery in Dublin on Dec 2nd .
Following the presentation on Dec 2nd, the first ever BEO gig outside of Letterkenny was held in Dublin. The crowd comprised of local TY students and students participating schools in Donegal.
It is the aim of all those involved in BEO that this project will continue to grow nationwide.
