Scoil Pól Latest News
Welcome to our News Page! Here you will find all the Latest happenings here in Scoil Pól!
Our Overall Sportsperson of the Year, Transition Year student Liam Davis, set off for the Netherlands yesterday with the Irish U16 Shore Angling team to compete in the World Championships in Domburg. They will have a weeks practise before the competition starts in just over a week.
A proud day for Liam, his family and all in Martinstown as well as here in Scoil Pol. He is, and has been, a fine ambassador for his school, county, and country. There has been a huge amount of effort over the past while to get there, and we hope it pays off for them all.
Wishing you and your teammates the very best of luck, Liam! A fantastic achievement and very well deserved!
Dear Parents, you will have received the letter below through the school. All registration sheets that were distributed to 2nd years this week are to be returned by Monday October 9th to Catriona O’Dea. Thank you for your cooperation.
Dear Parents,
The “Lets Learn about Drugs and Alcohol Together” Programme will be delivered in Scoil Pól, Kilfinane this October.
The LLADAT programme is designed to support the Junior Cycle mandatory subject Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE). The LLADAT programme has been successfully delivered across the mid-west region since 2013, working with over 60% of post primary schools in 2019/20. We return this year post pandemic and look forward to meeting everyone.
The programme involves two sessions, delivered across subsequent weeks. The first session is for parents/guardians to learn about substance use for this important age group. The second session (a week later) is for the parent/guardian and their son/daughter. Attendance at both sessions is important and the programme is only open to your son/daughter by your attendance at session one.
In the first session, we will explore the following areas:
What is a drug? Why young people use drugs? How to talk to your child about drugs,
vaping etc. The importance of parental influence, Information on key substances.
Session two is more interactive and will involve both parent and pupil working together in a shared learning environment. This session builds on session one and supports learning from the SPHE class, through active engagement and communication.
The dates for the session at “Scoil Pól,”:
Thursday Oct 19th 7.00 – 9.00 p.m. parent only
Thursday Oct 26th 7.00 – 9.00 p.m. parent & child
Registration is not essential but will help us to determine numbers interested. If you wish to attend please text your NAME followed by the word “KILFINANE” to (087) 1927127 to confirm interest. You are under no obligation to attend if you text.
Please know that this is not a lecture. If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me directly, visit our website www.lladat.ie or alternatively contact Caitriona O’Dea.
Yours sincerely,
Sancha Power
