Scoil Pól Awards Night

On Friday September 26th, we held out annual Awards Evening to honour our students hard work, dedication and excellence over the past year. This year we were delighted to welcome back Ms. Louisa Power.

Louisa Power completed her secondary school education in Scoil Pól in 2003. She is a First Class Honours graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In her address to parents, teachers and students in Scoil Pól, on the occasion of the Awards’ Ceremony 2014, Louisa made the following comments about Scoil Pól:
“When I walked through the doors this evening, I was immediately struck by the fact that the unique relationship between staff and students, which I experienced as a student here, still remains.”

Ladies Football Match Report : Scoil Pól 8 - 4 Crosshaven 1 - 4
07th October 2014

Another year for the Gaelic Football girls. We have been training in earnest since the first week in September. This year we aim to match if not improve on our season last year. The senior girls reached the Munster semi-final, and the junior girls competed in the Munster final.
Our first Senior match was against Crosshaven secondary school yesterday the 7th of October in the Mallow GAA Complex. Mr Dan Somers, Mr Owen Walsh and Miss Sinead Duggan (trainers) had picked the team and were looking forward to seeing the team in their first competitive game this year. Shannon Doherty (6th year) was delighted to be made captain, and she gave a rousing pre-match speech.

5th & 6th yr Students visit Construction Site

September 26th

Fifth & Sixth Year students went to Croagh, Co. Limerick last Friday Sept 26th to visit an active building site. Students were paired up and given twelve activities related to various building components and strategies to investigate at the site.

LCVP 6th yr visit to Ballygowan Water, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick

September 22nd

On the 22nd September 2014, the Leaving Cert students visited Ballygowan Water as part of their LCVP portfolio. They were met by Trish Bridgeman, Manager and Paul McMahon, Team Leader. Paul gave a very detailed and insight presentation followed by a very interesting tour of the factory. We saw how water bottles were ‘exploded’ to size, water was bottled, labelled, wrapped and placed onto pallets.

Car Free Day - Green Flag Initiative

September 19th

 This year sees us strive to obtain our 4th Green Flag. The theme for the 4th flag is Travel, there are 7 steps in the process which include continued development of our green schools code and continuous efforts at litter/waste, water management and energy efficiency. As part of the travel theme we aim to promote a cleaner environment by minimising amount of traffic to and from school on a daily basis. Wednesday is our Walk On Wednesday where students and staff are encouraged to carpool, walk, cycle and park and stride. Surveys are taken every Wednesday to monitor our progress.

Limerick's Live 95fm - 95 Stop Tour

We had a very busy and exciting day on Tuesday the 23rd of September, when Live 95fm did a live broadcast from our library as part of their 95 Stop Tour. We had loads of fundraising events running that day from our Non-Uniform Movie themed day to "Splat the Teacher", to a delicious Bake Sale!
