YSI Project - 'Happy Feet' Charity Run/Walk or Cycle

Our YSI project was presented to various schools in Munster in the Limetree Theatre in Limerick City last month, overall our presentation went very well and we recently were informed that we have got been accepted to attend the show in Dublin with approxiametly 70 other schools from around the country. As part of our YSI project we are promoting positive mental health and self harm, the class decided to organise a fun run, we organised this with our religion teacher, however it was great to see all the staff help with the event. The money raised from our event will go to the Irish Cancer society and our Transition Year fund. We organised a 5 kilometre fun run, a 35 kilometre cycle and a 60 kilmetre cycle. This event will run on the 16th of April and will commence with the 60k cycle at 10am, the 35k cycle at 10.30am, and finally the 5k run/walk at 12 o clock. There will be light refreshments and a fun day icluding a live DJ, Bouncing castle, BBQ, Facepainting, and more! Be sure to invite all your family and friends, a great day will be had here at Scoil Pol!. if you have any queries about the event please do not hesistate the contact the school on 06391197. Trocaire Fast

Our six members of the Scoil Pólar Bears Bank decided to do a 24 hour fast for the charity Trócaire. Each member refrains from eating food or drinking anything except for water for one full day. We as a bank can support each other and keep each other strong through a challenge like this as we all know it is worth it to raise money and awareness for such a worthwhile charity and also to stand in solitude with those unfortunate people who have to endure this suffering every day. The money is raised by each member getting sponsorship for doing the fast. All of us believe that it is such a meaningful cause and hope that our effort makes a difference and if we have made a difference to even just one persons life that is a big difference.

Scoil Pólar Bears Bank

Scoil Pól TY took part in the 'Build a Bank' programme. They named their bank Scóil Polar Bears. As part of the bank they also created a website and an online calculator to help their customers become more informed about the workings of a bank. Scoil Pólar Bears bank members felt it was very important to get involved in the local community and help the people around them. Their motto was 'bank on us' to show that they are reliable and by doing community work we feel that we are trusted by our community.

Colm Cooper Visit's the school and Scoil Pólar Bear's Bank

Members of Scoil Pólar Bear Bank were delighted that Colm Cooper, All Star football, was able to visit Scoil Pól Kilfinane where the bank is set up. Colm gave a very interesting talk to many of our customers about fitness, sport and nutrition. We then had a photo session with him. It was a very successful day eventhough many bank members were unable to attend due to work experience. Fortunately Áine Crowley, TY student, was able to attend and introduced Colm Cooper. After the talk the customers had a "question and answer" session with Colm. The customers enjoyed the talk and found it very beneficial. Scóil Polar Bears Bank was set up through the AIB Build a Bank Challenge and has been very proud of its success so far. Click here for more photos on the day .
