2015/2016

Since before Christmas we have been running a lunchtime badminton doubles league between Senior students and staff members. It is now down to the Grand Final stage where the winners of the two semi-finals that took place this last week will battle it out for the Badminton title. The semi-finalists were Ed Valatka & Darren McCarthy, Mr Mike O'Hara & Ms Lyn Nolan, Marty Farrell & MJ Farrell, Mrs Noreen ORiordan & Mr Mike Organ.

Contesting in the Grand Final will be Mr O'Hara & Ms Nolan versus Mrs O'Riordan & Mr Organ. What a match it will be!!! Well done to all that took part and best of luck to our two finalists!!

2011 is European Year of the Volunteer. --- In Scoil Pól we are way ahead!

We are in the eighth year of Meitheal Spóirt where senior students volunteer to organise lunchtime activities. Yet again over fifty students from 6th yr, 5th yr and LCA 1 are contributing each week to lunchtime activities. The hall has been in use each lunchtime for indoor soccer leagues for senior boys, senior girls, junior boys and junior girls. The junior boys' final was played just before Halloween and the other leagues are still ongoing.

The winning junior boys' team is:
Ed Valatka, Dylan O'Connell, Jack Cooke, Séamas Lysaght, Darren Carroll and Marty Farrell.
Entries have been taken for the Senior Girls' Badminton doubles and matches are starting shortly. Meanwhile in the east corridor table tennis has been running for the first year students and the standard has improved immensely since September. But they still have to beat Mr O'Hara!

A highly successful table tennis league was organised for the first year students by Mr Somers and in the final Seán Lyons proved a worthy winner against Jordan Soundy. Due to the level of interest in the table tennis Mr Somers has now started an after-school table tennis club for students in first, second and third year. All welcome.
In the west wing extension table tennis is provided for all other students and interest is increasing in proportion to the inclemency of the weather! A word of thanks to the O'Connell family for the provision of an extra table tennis table for the first year students. We always wondered why Mark and Brian were so adept at table tennis!
