Congratulations to the Scoil Pól choir who took part and sang beautifully with 18 schools within the Limerick and Killaloe Dioceses. This year Seinn was part of the Limerick City of Culture and we were delighted to be involved. A truly enjoyable and uplifting evening
What is Seinn?
Seinn 2014, is a new initiative of the Dioceses of Limerick and Killaloe to promote liturgical music in second-level schools in our two dioceses. RE teachers and students are being invited to learn new liturgical music and to participate in an exciting concert in the UL Concert Hall with a full orchestra on Thursday, 3rd April 2014! This program is being sponsored by the dioceses so it has minimum cost to school and students.
The aim of the programme is to provide RE departments with a resource of liturgical music for use at various school celebrations and by extension it teaches and promotes good liturgical music which will be of benefit to parishes. We are delighted to have secured the services of Ian Callanan, one of Ireland's leading composers of liturgical music, who will be the director of the programme. This initiative is similar to liturgical music programmes for second-level students currently operating in some other dioceses in Ireland, most notably the Emmanuel Programme in the Archdiocese of Dublin which is also directed by Ian.
We would like to say a special well done and congratulations to Chloe Shinnors, who beautifully sang a solo on the night 'Our God Is Here'.

The quality isn't great but it gives a feel of the atmosphere that night, Scoil Pól are situated on the left balcony. Great night had by all who attended.

Scoil Pól - Transition Years 2013/2014 present "The Molooneys" by Michael Dennehy
Well done to our Transition Years on the brilliant production of 'The Molonneys'. We had great crowds showing up to support the TYs on both nights. We'd like to thank everyone for their support and many thanks to all who supplied spot prizes. Your generosity is appreicated.

This is a two act play by Michael Dennehy.
This play is about a factory worker by the name of Michael Joseph Molooney, his wife Brigid Molooney is a bit of a social climber, and their daughter Aideen Molooney is a care free lady of about thirty years.
Maggie mother to Brigid, is a seemingly senile old lady, who is very deceptive and cunning in her old age. Her husband Richard, has become more agile and finds fun 'eventually' with wife Maggie.
Artie Hanrahan, A long standing family friend of the Molooneys very keen to marry Aideen, even if he has to wait 'forever' and is banished from the house by Brigid.
Angela Battenburgen, An eccentric foreign lively, fun loving district nurse who gets Richard and Maggie 'going' with her aerobic excercises.
Doctor Henry Osborne, a British born doctor who arrives to practice in Kilfinane and takes a shine to Aideen. Mr Nevin is a man who comes at midnight to deliver the presidents cheque to Richard on his 100th birthday.
Guard Moore, A rather outstanding buffoon who makes fun of Michael Joseph. Guarda Flaherty, partner of Guarda Moore is investigating some missing money. Also Uncle Toby shows up to add controversy to the mix
This play surrounds a box of money in the Molooney Household. Brigid Molooney wants to use this money to purchase the house next door and Michael Joe wants to use it to bet on the horses.
When the box goes missing, there are hilarious consequences for all in the Molooney Household and futher a field.
Last week we in Scoil Pol were delighted to be informed that one of our students, Stacey O'Mahony, had been awarded first place in the LCA category of the National Career Skills Competition 2013 for her excellent understanding of the career of Hairdressing and the skills she observed and developed during her work experience.
Stacey wins an Apple iPad and was presented with The Winner's Cup. The school was presented with €1,000 towards the school's Guidance Programme. The Award Ceremony was held in the Clock Tower, at the Department of Education and Skills on Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 on Tuesday 21st May at 11.00am.
Stacey, Mr. Michael O' Hara school principal, Mrs Elma Power LCA co-ordinator, and Stacey's friend Clara attended the event.
The Minister for Training and Skills at the Department of Education & Skills, Mr Ciaran Cannon TD presented this year's prizes. Refreshments were served after the prize giving.
One again, congratulations to Stacey on her success. Given that Careers Portal received over 1,000 applications across all programmes this year, and the standard was very high, this was a great achievement for her.
A second Student of Scoil Pol, Elaine Rea was placed in the top eight entries nationwide, for her excellent understanding of the career of childcare and the skills she observed and developed while on her work experience. Elaine received a certificate of merit in recognition of her participation in the competition.
On behalf of all in Scoil Pol, we congratulate our two students on their much deserved achievements.
