The Parents Association is a long-established and valued part of our school community. Guided by teamwork, respect, and a commitment to excellence, the association works to strengthen the vital partnership between parents, staff, and students.
The Parents Association represents the parents and guardians of students currently attending Scoil Pól. It plays a key role in ensuring that parents’ voices are heard and contributes positively to the life of the school. By working in close co-operation with the principal, teachers, Board of Management, and students, the association helps promote a supportive, caring, and inclusive school environment where every student can thrive.
The Role and Benefits of the Parents Association
An active parents association is central to the effective running of Scoil Pól. It provides a platform for parental input into school policies, supports communication between home and school, and helps foster a strong sense of community. Through its work, the association has a direct impact on the educational and social experiences of our students.
The key aims of the Parents Association include:
- Promoting Student Wellbeing – Organising activities that build friendships, encourage empathy, and support student development in a safe and welcoming environment.
- Policy Feedback – Providing a parental perspective on school policies under review by the Board of Management.
- Parental Voice – Acting as a channel for parents to raise issues of general concern with the Principal and Board of Management.
- Supporting Fundraising – Helping to raise funds for extra-curricular activities, equipment, and student supports, in co-operation with the school.
- Parent and Student Support – Hosting events such as information evenings, welfare talks, and informal gatherings to support both parents and students.
- Welcoming New Families – Offering advice and support to new parents as they join the school community.
- Providing Assistance – Supporting staff-led events by offering extra supervision and practical help when needed.
- Board of Management Representation – Facilitating the nomination and election of parent representatives to the Board of Management.
Structure of the Parents Association
The Parents Association is made up of dedicated parent volunteers who wish to contribute to the educational life of their children. Each year, at the Parents Association AGM, a steering committee is formed. This committee usually includes a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and other members who work together to plan events and represent the wider parent body. Meetings are held regularly, and all parents are warmly encouraged to attend and get involved.
