New Science Labs & an All-Weather Astro Pitch Coming to Scoil Pól

Scoil Pól is delighted to share an update on two exciting projects currently under way on our campus — a full refurbishment of our Science laboratories, and a new all-weather astro turf pitch for PE, training and matches.

Refurbishing Our Science Labs

This project has been made possible through Climate Action funding from the Department of Education and Youth (DEY), reflecting the Department's commitment to modern, sustainable school facilities that support both academic excellence and environmental responsibility.

The new laboratories will give our students access to bright, purpose-built spaces equipped for hands-on, practical learning across Biology, Chemistry and Physics — helping to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators right here in Kilfinane.

To our students: this is your future workspace — a place to question, experiment, and discover. We can't wait to see what you'll build in it.

Work is progressing well, and we are excited to confirm that both laboratories are on track to open in early December 2026.

A New Astro Turf Pitch

Carried out in partnership with Blackrock GAA, the school pitch is being replaced with an all-weather astro turf surface. It means PE classes, training and matches can go ahead on a consistent, well-drained surface all year round, rather than being at the mercy of the weather.

Work is being planned jointly with Blackrock GAA, who will also make use of the new pitch once complete. The Board of Management is preparing to apply for funding under the Community Sports Facility Fund to help support the cost of the project.
