Student Council
Comhairle na nDaltaí
Every student has a voice at Scoil Pól – and the Student Council is how we use it.
We are a group of students elected by our classmates to represent every year group in the school. We bring student issues, ideas and concerns to teachers and school management, and we work with them, the Board of Management and parents to make Scoil Pól a better place for everyone.
It’s not just talk, either – what we raise helps shape real decisions about our school. Our liaison teacher, Ms K. Finucane, supports us every step of the way.
How the Student Council works
- Who’s on it: two representatives from every year group, from 1st Year to 6th Year.
- Elections: held every September. Any student can put their name forward, and classmates vote for who they want to represent them.
- Officers: council members elect a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and PRO to lead the council for the year.
- Meetings: we meet every two weeks with our liaison teacher and meet regularly with school management.
Student Council 2026/2027
Chairperson: Ava Drea, 5th Year
Secretary: Savannah Noonan, 3rd Year
Treasurer: Roisin Reidy, Transition Year
PRO: Conor Mulcahy & Jenna O’Meara, 6th Year

What we do
- Listen to what students are saying and raise it where it counts.
- Report back to students on what’s discussed at our meetings.
- Have a say in school policies.
- Work closely with our liaison teacher, senior management, staff and the Board of Management.
- Look out for student wellbeing.
- Encourage pride in our school and its facilities.
- Help build a positive, welcoming atmosphere around the school.
- Team up with local and national community groups.
- Run charity and fundraising events.
What we’ve achieved
- Raised money for charities and school facilities, year after year.
- Helped shape school policies, including the Code of Behaviour, school trips and healthy eating.
- Stayed involved with the canteen and breakfast club.
- Took part in Wellbeing Week, Culture Week and Seachtain na Gaeilge.
- Had our say on the school uniform and PE uniform.
- Met regularly with school management about what matters to students.
Our goals for 2026/2027
- Goal 1 – Design and introduce a new initiative focused on encouraging Gaeilge in our school community and everyday life.
- Goal 2 – Addition of at least one new microwave for the GPA.
- Goal 3 – Run a Christmas card campaign linked with local nursing homes.
Have your say
You don’t need to be on the council to make a difference. If you have an idea, a concern or a suggestion:
- Talk to your class representative.
- Drop a note in the Student Council suggestion box in the canteen.
- Speak to Ms K. Finucane, our liaison teacher.
Every suggestion is read and discussed at our meetings.
The Student Council is established under Section 27 of the Education Act 1998 and operates in line with the Scoil Pól Student Council Constitution. Please see link below.
