The provision of Guidance in Scoil Pól is a whole school activity with the Guidance Counsellor playing a central role in its delivery. Guidance in school refers to a range of learning experiences provided in a developmental sequence that assist students to develop self-management skills which will lead to effective choices and decisions about their lives. These experiences are grounded in the continuum of support model (All, Some, Few) and include classroom learning, group work, one-to-one meetings, co-curricular activities and students’ sense of the whole school culture. The aim of these experiences is to assist students to develop self-management skills, which will lead to effective choices and decisions about their lives.

Guidance plays a significant role in supporting students’ wellbeing, contributes to building internal and external resilience and assists students in making successful transitions personally, socially, educationally and vocationally.
