At Scoil Pól, the prefect system is an integral and highly valued part of school life. It provides senior students with a meaningful opportunity to develop leadership skills while contributing positively to the wider school community. Becoming a prefect is both an honour and a responsibility, as these students are entrusted with upholding the ethos of the school and acting as role models for their peers.
Once appointed, prefects take on a wide range of responsibilities. They play a key role in supporting younger students, offering guidance and encouragement to help them settle into school life, while also assisting staff in maintaining the welcoming and inclusive environment for which Scoil Pól is known. Their presence and leadership help to foster a culture of respect, kindness and cooperation across the school community.
In addition to their daily duties, prefects are central to the organisation of important senior school events such as the Yearbook and the Debs. These occasions are highlights of the school calendar and are made possible through the commitment, creativity and teamwork of the prefect group. Their efforts ensure that these traditions are not only successful but also memorable experiences for all involved.
Through their work, prefects gain invaluable skills in leadership, organisation, teamwork and communication - qualities that will serve them well both in their studies and in the years beyond school. Many students look back on their time as prefects as one of the most rewarding aspects of their education, as it allows them to give back to the school community that has supported them throughout their journey.
