Inclusion at Our School
At our school, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We proudly provide four dedicated special ASD classes, known as The Hub. Every student in a special class or The Hub is valued as a full member of our school community and can choose the learning approach that best suits them.
Learning Pathways in the Hub
Students in a special class have three options:
- Full mainstream classes – joining their peers for all subjects.
- Blended approach – a combination of mainstream classes and learning in the HUB.
- Full L1/L2 Learning Programmes – tailored programmes delivered entirely in the HUB or through mainstream classes.
This flexible approach ensures each student receives the support they need while having opportunities to engage socially and academically across the school.
Learning in the HUB
The HUB is a vibrant learning space where students take part in a broad range of classes, short courses, and Priority Learning Units (PLUs).
Subjects and Courses offered in the HUB include:
- Literacy (PLU)
- Numeracy (PLU)
- Preparation for Work (PLU)
- Personal Care (PLU)
- Living in the Community (PLU)
- Animal Care (Short Course)
Additional subjects may include:
- Art
- PE
- Cookery
- History
- Wellbeing
- Spanish
- Computer Applications
- Geography
- Cultural and Heritage Studies
This variety ensures students develop both academic and practical life skills in a supportive environment.
Activities and Outings
Learning at our school extends beyond the classroom. Students in the HUB enjoy a range of outings and community experiences, such as:
- Social games with Foróige
- Equine therapy at Liskennett
- Sports Ability Day at the University of Limerick (UL)
- …and much more throughout the school year.
These activities promote confidence, independence, and social skills while helping students explore their interests.
Celebrating Neurodiversity
We are proud to celebrate Neurodiversity within our school each year by having a celebration day for Neurodiversity within Scoil Pól. This is an important occasion in our school calendar, recognising and valuing the different ways people think, learn, and experience the world. It helps foster understanding, acceptance, and a culture of inclusion for everyone in our school community.
